BGJHS Band is growing
BGJHS 8th grade band performs at football game.
Band at BGJHS had been around for many many years. There are very many students who play in band. Plenty of band students are participating in band because teachers visited their elementary schools in 5th grade to introduce students to band and show students the instruments in person.
¨I think that band is really cool and playing in multiple concerts helped me with my stage fright,¨ said Teralan Carver, an 8th grader at BGJHS.
¨It can be hard depending on what instrument you are playing. My instrument is pretty heavy so it’s harder to play,” said Josette Doyle, another 8th grader in BGJHS Band, who plays a tenor saxophone.
When asked about what advice they would give a younger student, Josette said, ¨Just because it seems hard at first, doesn’t mean you should give up right away. Everything new to you will seem hard, but it gets easier as time goes on.¨
Teralan followed with, ¨If you just pay attention in class and don´t get distracted it will be fine.¨
“Music is my safe place, when I play my instrument it helps me practice with my emotions,” said Darlene GuzmanzHernandez, another 8th grader at BGJHS. She loves playing in band because it’s something she’s really interested in.
