Coach Janusz Swierkosz is currently the head coach for boys soccer at Bowling Green Junior High School. Since he took control, the team has had awesome seasons, winning many championships.
Coach Swierkosz moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2010. Before that, he was residing in Poland, participating in track and field as a jumper. He also played soccer in a league. When he came to the U.S., he decided to be a coach. His soccer dream was to play in the first division in Poland which he achieved. He typically works with people aged 10-16.
Coach S is what kids typically call him.
He practices with the kids 2-4 times a week, and enrolls in soccer tournaments on the weekend so they can show off their skills. Typical practice is open field for 10 minutes. Next is the warm up for 20 minutes which consists of running. stretching, ball-dribbling drills, and sprinting. Each practice is based off of Coach S’s thinking, picking what needs to be worked on.
Coach S’s core values are self discipline, being on time, honesty, positive attitude, and giving positive feedback to the players. He believes cheering and encouraging their teammate will lead to a better and victorious season. He tells his players that’s how they win championships.
When they play in the soccer tournaments, they follow a certain game plan. They send the first group of players to see what tactics should be used against the team they are playing since everyone of them could play differently. Then, they pick out specific players that specialize in playing the way they need to. This plan helps them reach the victory and take home the win.
“Then, at the end of the game, I send the best players to win the game and give all they got to win,” said Coach S.
Coach Swierkosz has worked really hard to reach the level of success he sits at now. He spent countless of hours practicing soccer himself, along with all the time he spends with athletes, teaching them how to play as well
